I am a recent graduate from Monash University, having completed my Masters of Tourism in 2020 after a 5-month consultant internship and exchange abroad in Estonia with the country’s Tourism Board. It was here in Tallinn where I was able to fully harness and apply all the skills I had acquired in my studies to an industry standard and where the sparks of Data Analysis, Strategic Insights, Market Research, Smart Tourism and Consultancy as future pathways lit up in me. In the 5 months I was there, I had the privilege of conducting self-driven research on a previously understudied aspect of their tourism industry which the Board was interested in gaining further insight about for future strategic decisions. Specifically, I delivered strategic insights and findings on ‘Airbnb Host Perspectives on Their Role in the Tourism Industry & The Impact of Airbnb: A Case Study of Tallinn, Estonia’, presenting the Tourism Board’s Tourism Research Coordinator with a concise 10,000-word report and delivering a 30-minute presentation summarising the key findings. Meeting on a monthly basis throughout the internship with the Tourism Research Coordinator to give update presentations on my current research, insights and findings, as well as receiving feedback and answering questions about emerging data trends to deliver the best results. Ultimately, it was in researching, writing and presenting my own data driven research to Estonia’s Tourism Research Coordinator to an industry level standard where I felt the most fulfilled in my working and academic life. With the ambition and passion to pursue that rewarding feeling being a key reason for me seeing Data Analysis, Strategic Insights, Market Research, Smart Tourism and Consultancy roles as exciting opportunities to again deliver quality, fulfilling outcomes not only for myself but also for others. Throughout my tertiary education and work experience I have gained and developed a broad and excellent skill set which would be an asset for any team. These are; strong verbal and written communication skills, cross-discipline research and report writing, marketing and development strategy, digital marketing, engaging oral-presentations, cross-cultural relations and networking, data analysis, cultural tourism, events management and development, understanding of Australia’s key strengths, weaknesses and perceptions as a destination, and assessing dynamic political, social, economic and environmental changes in the world and their reciprocal impact on countries, regions and markets across the globe.
