About Daniel Smedley
Throughout my professional career I have gained many experiences in a variety of roles. This has allowed me to build my knowledge and skills and build up my flexibility within different working environments, being highly adaptable to their expectations and approaches. Seeing my strengths lie in my people skills combined with my interests, experiences and qualifications, my desire to share and teach has led me to dedicating myself to a career in education.Having started as a Learning Support Assistant in 2016, I worked hard to progress quickly. Within a year I commenced my PGCE studies and specialised my teaching in areas such as Land Based Studies and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. I currently teach all of the above subjects in a deparment specialising in SEND. A year after being awarded my PGCE I moved into a 0.5 Lecturer contract and took on the role of Pastoral Tutor and Land-based Studies Co-ordinator. I am now a Duke of Edinburgh leader and accredited Expedition Assessor and continue to enjoy delivering cross-college. As a SEN Lecturer I am keen in setting no limits for learners who may have perceived barriers. I encourage and motivate learners to experience a broad and challenging array of activities that demonstrates to them that these barriers are perceived, and they can achieve greatness.As a Lecturer who has maintained a record of outstanding lesson observations, I believe I am a highly organised, motivational, punctual, and a professional member of the team who is able to effectively assess, differentiate and support the learners through their courses. I pride myself on meeting deadlines ahead of time efficiently. I have an enthusiasm for developing and producing detailed Schemes of Work as well as curriculum development and target tracking.As a Pastoral Tutor I confidently develop and maintain supportive relationships with my tutees, their parents and all outside professionals including social workers, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and SEN caseworkers. I have developed robust Individual and medical risk assessments for each of my tutees and ensure that learning support teams around each individual are kept up to date and supported in their role. I confidently facilitate EHCP reviews regularly to ensure the best outcomes for each of my tutees and to promote their smooth transition out of college at the end of their courses.
