Dan joins Savills from RPS where he was Senior Director for major projects, spanning NSIPs, waste, energy, renewables and aviation. During 2020 Dan led multi-disciplinary submissions on hydrogen production and distribution, carbon capture, utilisation and storage and was a lead member of the Net Zero Carbon Service Strategy, integrating skill sets across the business. Dan is an air quality, climate, health and environmental permitting specialist. Dan will be working closely with Savills Earth to deliver our contribution to integrated net zero carbon projects in all sectors for our clients.

Dan Smyth is a Senior Director with over 20 years’ experience as an environmental specialist. He has taken a leading role in preparing DCO and EP applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects, including some of the most controversial developments in the UK. He has significant experience as an expert witness in the areas of air quality and human health, climate change and environmental permitting. Dan’s experience encompasses projects across a wide range of sectors, including power, energy from waste and biomass, airports, rail, pipelines, oil and gas installations, minerals, waste and waste water.

As Technical Director, Dan maintained a technical lead role in several areas, including environmental permitting, air quality, sustainability appraisal, carbon footprinting and human health risk assessment. He led teams covering these areas and developed his expert witness role into a high calibre service on strategic projects, leading and developing the technical and commercial aspects of the supporting teams.

Dan joined Ashdown in 1995 as Senior Air Quality Consultant. He developed a role leading the air quality and environment team, initially on IPC and international EIA, with an important part of the business being the oil and gas industry in Abu Dhabi. During this time IPPC was introduced and Dan managed a portfolio of mid-merit OCGT power generation projects for SSE. He also worked on several power projects for Rolls Royce, British Gas and Barking Power.
