As part of my BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Cadets) we spend 3 weeks on placements (after 3 weeks in college). On my last placement I was on Surgrey Day Case Unit, when on this placement I prepared patients for surgery by doing their pre-operation observations (Blood Pressure, Oxygen Sats and weight and height). On my last placement I was on Surgrey Day Case Unit, when on this placement I prepared patients for surgery by doing their pre-operation observations (Blood Pressure, Oxygen Sats and weight and height). Once a nurse had gone through the paperwork, I would get them ready for threatre by helping them get changed in a hospital gown (if they needed help) and checking the patients details to make sure that it was the correct person. Once the theatre staff where ready for the patient I would take them down on a trolley to the theatre reception area and hand over the patient to the theatre staff.Once the patient had come back to the ward, I would carry on checking the observations of the patient (Blood Pressure and Oxygen Sats). Also I would provide the patient food and drink which they needed. If any patients needed any medication, I would take the prescription down to the pharmacy so they would be ready for them when they leave. Once I patient had left I would clean the bay which they had been in and replace the bedding.If a patient needed to be admitted to the hospital for a stay over night, I would assist the ward staff to move the patient up to a ward which they would be staying on. I am currently an Duty Officer for a stadium. Basically am in charge of 18 - 20 first aiders and Healthcare Professionals. Also I laise with the local Ambulance Service to provide an effective medical cover for the event which is happening at that stadium. Also, when I am not doing stadia duty officering I am duty officer at smaller events in the community.
