Hey, how's it going? Not too bad here. Was promoted to a team lead in fall 2022, then an engineering manager in fall 2023, so I can't complain. Before then I'd done the majority of our autonomy controls and embedded software myself. Since we've been bringing in some younger talent I've been helping them get up to speed, so it made sense that I'd get the promotions to go along with the new roles I was doing. While they're ramping up I'm still doing some of the development and testing, but it's nice that it's starting to ramp down some. Went to a live demo recently and it was nice to just sit back and watch instead of being in the hot seat myselfMy wife and I are planning on moving to Coos Bay Oregon mid-2025. Luckily, back in the summer of 2019, we made the bold move to buy a house out there despite only having spent a few days in Oregon. Now it's looking like one of the most brilliant things we've ever done given the sharp rise in housing since then. Assuming the last few things fall into place, we'll sell our home of 25 years in central Illinois next summer and move out there.I mention Oregon mainly to make it clear that I'm not interested in a job that requires me to move anywhere else. I'm fine traveling a week or two a quarter for a job if I can work remotely from there the rest of the time.By the way, my younger son, Luke Stanek, will be graduating from the University of Iowa in May 2025 with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Smart kid. He interned for me for a couple of summers and was very helpful, but then we decided he needed to get out from my shadow and get some other experience (with mixed results).
