I’m a board-certified family medicine physician. My medical interests include preventive medicine; public health; women’s, men’s and transgender health; LGBTQA; pediatrics; geriatrics; substance and abuse/dependence; and communicable disease management. Caring for all members of a family and helping to improve the health of individuals of all ages, genders and backgrounds is what I love most about being a physician.Why did you become a doctor?I believe that health is an essential element of a fulfilling life. I enjoy partnering with patients and families to work to fulfill their health goals.What can patients expect if they choose you as their doctor?I strive to create partnerships with my patients in order to help facilitate improvements in their health. I encourage patients to come up with goals. Together we come up with achievable solutions. I emphasize prevention as the best way to move towards a healthy future. My recommendations focus on up-to-date evidence-based interventions. Ultimately, the hard work needs to come after the office visit.When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?I try to live a well-balanced life focused on maintaining my own mental and physical health. I make sure that I have time for exercise, and I play competitive Ultimate Frisbee and ice hockey. I grow a vegetable garden and enjoy cooking and baking. Creating art helps me to remain centered. I also advocate for improvements in community, policy and public health.How would your friends and family describe you?Friends would describe me as thoughtful, compassionate and motivated.What else would you like patients to know about you?I was born and raised in Minnesota. I remained in state to attend medical school at the University of Minnesota. After graduating, I moved to Washington State for residency. After completing my residency, I remained in Southwest Washington to help build a multidisciplinary team in the medical home model within the heart of Olympia. I’ve served as the public health officer for Mason County and am a public health consultant for Dakota County. I have sat as the president of the local medical society and have been active in the Washington State Medical Association and American Academy of Family Physicians. I also chaired the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Health Services Advisory Committee and am a board member of Minnesota Doctors for Health Equity.
