The structural and electronic properties of open-shelled square-planar iridium nitrogen-bound complexes were computationally studied. Learned how to generate input files and read large output files in order to quickly and accurately locate the desired data.

Studied in the area of synthetic inorganic fluorine chemistry with an emphasis on noble-gas chemistry and high oxidation state elements. Developed skills handling thermally and air sensitive compounds, carrying out reactions using vacuum line techniques, and low-temperature practices to synthesize and fully characterize compounds. Trained to safely and effectively carry out reactions in very reactive solvents (i.e. anhydrous HF) and under highly oxidizing conditions.

South Bend, In

Individually performed time-resolved resonance Raman techniques on a variety of short-lived organic and inorganic free-radical species generated by a 2 MeV Van de Graaff electron accelerator. Responsible for daily conditioning of the electron accelerator, nanosecond tunable dye laser, and intensified charge-coupled device detection system. The structures of transients were examined under various wavelengths using both deuterated and light water studying the effects of solvents on the structure.
