I'm currently working as President of Josephine Butler Junior Common Room at Durham University after being elected to the role by our members and starting in July 2023. I represent the interests of over 900 student members while supporting the day-to-day running of the common room, including providing administrative and organisational support to our sports, societies, and committees, organising large-scale events, assisting in overseeing budgets, and serving as a trustee for the common room's registered charity.My priorities as JCR President are to ensure ongoing financial sustainability, thoroughly review the JCR Standing Orders and formal processes to ensure they reflect the current composition of Josephine Butler JCR as an independent common room and charity, and boost engagement, particularly in student leadership roles.I am also the current Chair of Presidents' Committee, leading the group of 17 common room presidents in discussions regarding issues affecting our members and the wider student population. We meet regularly with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Wider Student Experience and meet termly with Durham University's Vice-Chancellor. As part of this role, I also sit on Durham University's Wider Student Experience Committee and provide reports to the Durham Students Union Assembly.I have previous experience in the retail, hospitality, and healthcare sectors, having worked as a sales assistant for JD Sports, a barista for a small independent cafe, and a supervisor in Josephine Butler's bar.I managed COVID testing for visitors, staff, and residents in a neuro-rehab facility for Elysium Healthcare. During this time, I was trained as a healthcare assistant and provided specialist care for residents with complex brain and spinal injuries and neurodegenerative disorders.I studied for a BSc in Psychology at Durham University and graduated in 2023. I had a particular interest in visual neuroscience, neuropsychology of memory and amnesia, and the neuroscience and development of language.
