As a police detective, I was assigned to the Intelligence Unit of the Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna Organized Crime Task Force (MCS) as an undercover intelligence agent. During my assignment, I was responsible for investigating a wide variety of complaints ranging from illegal drugs, vice (e.g. commercial gambling, prostitution, etc.), to other organized crime activity that could not be investigated by day-to-day field personnel due to the complexity of the investigations. MCS is sub-divided into two separate units, each with its own unit commander, personnel, and responsibilities. The two units within the Organized Crime Task Force are the Narcotics Unit and the MCS Intelligence Unit. Participating Cobb County law enforcement agencies providing both supervisory and non-supervisory personnel, and their investigative responsibility includes both incorporated and unincorporated Cobb County.I was later transferred to the City of Smyrna Criminal Investigations Division where I was responsible for investigating identifying and investigating local street gangs, prison gangs, organized crime, and their related criminal activities through the remainder of my investigative career.
