I am an applied microeconomist, conducting policy design, trial, and analysis in education, poverty, and social policy with government and non-government partners. My work has appeared in prestigious economics journals, including American Economic Journal: Applied Economics and Journal of Development Economics. I have been interviewed by The Economist and Australian Financial Review. My current research spans Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Pacific Island Countries. I co-lead large-scale research projects and co-direct global research teams. The three largest projects are the 5-year GBP 3.9 million Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) Programme in Indonesia, a USD 1 million research on high-touch high-tech education, and a USD 2 million research to improve the spending efficiency of Indonesia's national health insurance system. I provide advice to the Indonesian Ministry of Education, international organizations, and donor-funded programs. I am currently a senior research economist at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo.
