Projects included schools, retail , rail and tunnelling. On London Power Tunnels the role of environmental manager was assumed. This project was a National Grid Framework for the installation of critical electricity infrastructure in London to meet long term demand planning needs. Key duties included implementing the project master EMP (Environmental Management Plan) to ISO14001 standard , managing multiple environmental consents across multiple geographical sites in London. Each site had its own set of Environmental Risks and Compliance obligations. Successful Environmental Management involved close contact with relevant leads at consultant group Halcrow to ensure timely provision of high standard Environmental Reports for complex sites with contaminated land risks , ecology risks, archaeological risks and Noise impacts due to proximity to sensitive neighbour's in built up areas. Also critical was interfacing with regulatory bodies to negotiate and deliver consents and bespoke approvals for tunnelling related activities. Internal communication with operations teams was fundamental to ensure key environmental risks were identified , communicated and actively mitigated through the project EMS . Reputational protection for the client National Grid and construction partners Costain/Skanska were a notable priority , my role involved a lot of trust on the parts of the client and my employers as the project was high profile being and undertaken in the heart of urban London. Trust was also a key factor in the positive relationships built up with regulatory stakeholders such as the Environment Agency , Local Authority EHO'S and Utility provider Thames Water. These relationships transcended the regulators own obligations to public stakeholders whom they themselves served to where the planned tunnel infrastructure became a direct risk to their own assets.
