Student at University of North Dakota working on my undergraduate degree in accountancy. I am planning on completing the Master of Accountancy program to get the 150 credits to sit for the CPA.My story: I grew up in Rosemount, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Growing up, I always loved playing sports and was always involved in a team sport spring, summer, and fall. Sports were the foundation for how I first started to learn about team dynamics. Playing football didn't come without consequence, though. During my senior year I tore the Labrum in both of my shoulders and broke my finger, all requiring surgery. In the end, I had a total of four surgeries over 14 months, two on my right shoulder, on my left shoulder, and one on my finger. That will humble a young man very quickly! I learned a lot about myself over that 18 months of surgery and PT. I started to read books for enjoyment, focused on bettering myself, and becoming a better human overall. The biggest thing that I gained from that experience was that I lost 90 pounds. I had the game of football taken away from me, I had competition taken from me, but as Michael Jordan once said, "You need to be able to take a negative and turn it into a positive." Losing the weight is a 24/7 commitment. A commitment that required holding myself accountable. A commitment to becoming a better human and exploring my strengths and weaknesses. I feel that this is a very important story to share because it is one of the hardest things that I have done and it demonstrates my ability stay diligent, focused, and disciplined to achieve a goal. All of this makes sense because my top CliftonStrength is "restorative," a trait means that I am someone who is talented at dealing with problems and figuring out ways to solve them. I'm looking to start my career with a company that stays true to its core values and has a work environment that respects discipline and contribution to the team. Another thing that is important to me is a company’s commitment to invest in its employees’ growth and development.
