Based on this vision, the lean model enterprise team was formed.Athens Plant Material ImprovementBy mentoring, coaching and teaching plant leaders continuous improvement techniques, Athens reduced their materials organization labor cost by 40%. In addition, I coached plant leadership in their development of the plan for a 30% reduction in volume.

Grand Rapids Wood PlantDeveloped and implemented the strategy of creating value stream flow in the GR Wood Plant. Trained and mentored employees, to apply lean improvement methods and freed up 70,000 sq. ft. for future growth. An additional plan was developed to free up another 70,000 sq. ft. to accommodate that future growth. Also, trained and mentored operations managers on zone leader development. Originated the Steelcase Employee Suggestion System, and achieved one implemented suggestion per employee per month.Panel Value Stream/ Kaizen TeamThe Kaizen team, applying lean principles and lean line design, created a mixed-model production line which assembles four different panel systems. This team was also successful in creating new standard work, job breakdown sheets, and improved product flow.Grand Prairie and Metro Plant ConsolidationI provided lean support for the consolidation of our Metro and Grand Prairie plants, including plant layout, value stream layout and standardized work documentation. This consolidation resulted in a multi-million dollar savings for Steelcase.Currency Product LaunchFor this product launch, I provided coaching and mentoring to a newly appointed operations manager, whose previous career was not in manufacturing. This coaching included factory layout, process controls, and the daily operations of our Currency product line. This operation manager has been since promoted to position of plant manager.Core Steel OperationsWith area leadership using lean principles, we created a model production cell in our core steel operations. Also, as the lean leader, I provided lean support for the modernization project, which consolidated four manufacturing plants into two. My responsibilities also included training and development of zone leaders. I continue to be a lean advisor to our core steel lean leader.

Being a member of Steelcase's first lean initiative, we created the United Panel Division and reduced the foot print by 50%. This was done in order to launch a new product line. During this time my responsibilities included being a lean representative in productdevelopment for developing and launching a new panel system called Technology Wall.
