Five years of working in the veterinary industry has allowed me to become confident and proficient in a wide variety of general practice contexts while gaining a multitude of transferable skills in the process. I aim to be a proficient member of the team, providing a robust surgical service to my client base.Currently undergoing further education through a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, I have a drive to develop my surgical skillset and aspire to be a reliable option for an advanced surgical service to referring practices in the future.I define myself by the way I interact with other professionals, clients and even the general public outwith working hours.   Initially a New Graduate position, and following completion of the two-year IVC New Graduate scheme, this post has allowed me to provide a well-rounded small animal first-opinion service to our client base. This role has promoted the development of a range of both clinical and non-clinical skills, involving;- Occasionally working in a referral environment, assisting with advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures, overseeing advanced imaging (CT), and performing laparoscopic neutering procedures independently.- Developing soft tissue surgical skills by accepting non-routine cases initially seen by colleagues in practice e.g. skin flaps, anal sacculectomy, exploratory laparotomy etc. with successful outcomes.- Collaborating with colleagues on surgical decision-making and assisting in procedures to help encourage the growth and refinement of surgical techniques and protocols in practice.- Developing skills and contributing to improving practice policy and procedures, employing up-to-date evidence-based medicine in decision-making and providing a modern service to patients and clients.- Confidently and competently providing an out-of-hours service through on-call shifts, and sole charge night rotations in the only dedicated out-of-hours night service in the Highlands of Scotland covering 4+ local practices.- Sole charge of branch practice first-opinion consultations. - Overseeing EMS student placements and development through reference to a dedicated and progressive framework.- Manage client expectations and provide a thorough treatment plan for all cases consulted.- Collaborating with referral clinicians to effectively treat patients who cannot regularly attend a referral practice.
