During the summer of 2014 I travelled to the USA to deliver sessions at a number of soccer camps on the West Coast of America. I was delivering sessions to a variety of age ranges on both half day and full day camps. As well as delivering specified clinics during the weekend. I managed to be able to work exclusively with the AYSO ‘VIP Programme’ which is the American Youth Soccer Organization’s disability project. This focusses on ensuring all players can access safe environments to enjoy the game of soccer. This work was incredibly rewarding and allowed me to work closely with disabled athletes.

I worked for the club initially on a 6 month trial contract which then moved into a part-time role to enable me to continue my educational studies. My roles were varied and I learnt the importance of how sport can engage communities for the better. From delivering educational initiatives with international brands like Rolls-Royce and Prozone to delivering social inclusion programmes like the ‘Kickz’ Project I’ve been able to develop a mass range of skills with both delivering lesson based workshops and getting out into the community actively tackling social problems through the power of sport. I’ve worked with both the Derby County Futsal Squad and the Derby College Development Squad. Assisting coaches from both programmes I’ve been able to learn key skills in dealing with pre-season training regimes, match day preparation and post-game analysis. Working in a diverse environment like a football club I’ve also experience the day to day goings on and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes especially during match days. I held down a role as the head of the ‘Derby County Family Area’ this role ran throughout the 2013/14 season. On many occasions including match days I was also asked to step into the shoes of the Derby County mascot ‘Rammie’.
