Thesis Title: The Application of Machine Learning to Spatial Audio for Immersive Media ExperiencesFunding: EPSRC iCASE studentship in partnership with BBC Research and Development. PhD in collaboration with BBC R&D, investigating the challenges in producing spatial audio for immersive media experiences. This research involved the use audio signal processing and machine learning to create new and innovative production tools.• Designed and conducted qualitative study to inform technical research, leading to the design and implementation of audio and visual machine learning solutions. • Developed ML pipelines incl. model selection, implementation, optimisation/fine tuning, training, and evaluation using packages such as PyTorch, NumPy, SciPy etc. • Applied ML and signal processing in the development of a novel stereo to surround audio upmixing system.• Developed a prototype system for suggesting candidate sound effects files from the BBC's Sound Effects Archive and deriving audio metadata from 2D video using computer vision algorithms. • Authored a novel dataset of stereo and Ambisonic IR's along with both Python and MATLAB tools to enable the synthesis and processing of scenes in stereo and up to 4th order Ambisonics. • Implementation of DSP algorithms in Python, MATLAB, and C++ for audio effects and multichannel sound systems• Research published and presented at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.

A collaboration between L'boro London's Creative Research and Innovation Centre (CRAIC) and XR Stories investigating how advanced technologies such as, AI, XR, 5G, cloud computing, and real-time games engines are being utilised and deployed within the creative industries.• Led an 8 month project to investigate how organisations within the creative industries are utilising advanced technologies. • Developed and delivered a programme of work designed to answer research questions to inform key areas such as policy making and organisational approaches to R&D and technology adoption.• Contributed to a written evidence submission as part of the House of Lords Select Committee on Communication and Digital's "A creative future" inquiry. • Built relationships with local and national with stakeholders to facilitate research activities• Presented research at both academic and industry events incl. Beyond Conference 2022. • Advised on technical capability within the context of potential large scale funding bids.

• Providing a wide range of technical and administrative support to all Performing Arts, Music, and Music Technology courses.
