I direct and edit coverage of news, trends, innovation and events related to college sports nationwide, with a focus on college football and men's basketball, supervising an outstanding quartet of writers and a hard-working staff of editors and digital producers.The majority of my work involves planning and editing content and collaborating with senior editors, photographers, graphic designers and marketing professionals and interacting with college coaches, administrators and staff. Reporting and writing also is integral to my role in providing a robust and diverse array of content.I also conceived and manage FootballFour.com, a College Football Playoff-focused web site that has generated lucrative content sponsorships in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In fall 2015 I conceived and launched The Football Four Podcast, the first USA TODAY Sports podcast to reach one million downloads. In fall 2016 the podcast converted to a daily format in-season and saw a massive jump in audience.

Conceived and organized first of its kind event gathering nearly 100 cartographers from Portland and Oregon at large that featured a print and digital map gallery and a day full of presentations. Handled all aspects of planning, from finding presenters to formulating budgets to lining up catering, A/V and event space support.

Student trainee in the Region I Portland, Oregon office. Part of Ecological Services branch. Responsible for creating maps and analyzing spatial data for senior staff in order to illustrate and facilitate research and decision-making. Areas of focus included endangered species, environmental contaminants, habitat conservation and science applications.

Conducted GIS analysis of potential new markets and created map series to show favorability of geographic areas.

Taught WR 228 | Introduction to News Writing, a four-credit course, for two terms.

Planned, assigned and edited original content for print and online. Conceived and helped launch and manage numerous new Web products. Member of company's sports marketing committee. Directed staff of 15 full- or part-time writers and five-person sports results staff. Managed $88,000 annual freelance budget and planned and emceed annual All-Met awards luncheon with budget of $50,000.

No. 2 editor for 45-person department staff. Directed coverage of college sports, Olympics, NFL, Major League and minor league baseball, cycling, outdoors.

Directed enterprise and investigative projects, served as high school sports assistant editor and sports editor of Southern Maryland Extra edition.
