Adaptive optics, experimental design, cameras, deformable mirrors, data analysis, software design. Amplitude estimation using a self referencing interferometer. A high altitude mobile pointing platform was created to carry a telescope to 100,000 feet above 99% of the earth’s atmosphere to perform optical transmission experiments and return the telescope in reusable condition for more than 30 flights. Thermal and vacuum environmental problems were ameliorated to provide reliable GPS, compass, and communication information. Power supply problems were solved to provide reliable power. High rate data collection equipment (266 megabytes/second) was designed, built and used to collect adaptive optics (AO) and atmospheric data. Collected, analyzed, catalogued, and archived 10 TB of hd5 AO data. Studied 110 TB of AO data. Calibrated cameras, deformable mirrors, and sensors. Algorithms for estimation of phase and intensity from self-referencing interferometer measurements were designed, created, validated and successfully used to estimate atmospheric parameters including Fried and Rytov numbers. Phase screens for simulation of atmospheric turbulence were measured and used to create known Fried and Rytov numbers. Discovered that additional parameters are needed and proposed the autocorrelation distance of intensity as the new parameter. A data pipeline for preprocessing raw experimental data was created, validated, archived, and used to create a data base of information allowing immediate access to interesting data from our experiment. We used subversion version control and studied several other version control systems for our next project. An interface control document describing each component of the data was created, maintained, and archived to facilitate communication among team members.

Taught calculus and computer networks. Managed a computer network and demonstrated cable construction for my students. Lead workshops where my students configured and studied networks. Consulted with my students on calculus and network problems. Created and presented powerpoint presentations explaining calculus and network concepts. Designed, assigned, and graded homework problems to help the students learn the material.

Helped design the Crazy Horse sand control strategy. Related sand production observed during experimental well tests to predictions of sand production as a function of various sand control and oil production strategies. Proposed and evaluated methods for treating produced sand and proposed sequestering CO2 by pumping it into the deep ocean.

Improved KC10 simulators and maintained a Linux/Windows computer network. Measured KC10 simulator actuator response curves at US airbases. Used, maintained, and managed a mixed Linux, and Windows network for our simulation software. Designed, created, and validated a faster table look-up program for driving the simulators.

Taught 5 classes of honors physics are Booker T. Washington High School weekdays. Managed an Apple IIe computer network for my students. Repaired the Van de Graff generators and used them to demonstrate static electricity to my students. Designed, assigned, graded, and demonstrated the solution of physics homework problems. Introduced the students to practical aspects of optical interference, quantum mechanics, and relativity. Passed the Oklahoma Physics and Math teachers tests with 100% on 4 sections of the tests.
