I am a passionate ecological/environmental economist.My experiences includes taking part in the most ambitious nature restoration initiative in Portugal and have supported the development of some of the most innovative nature restoration initiatives around Europe. With a focus on finance for nature-based businesses, ecotourism development and fostering local economies.In research, I have an in-depth knowledge of innovative finance mechanisms to protect, restore and finance nature in the long-term (PFP) both on Land and Sea. Such as blended finance, green and blue bonds, resilience finance, carbon/biodiversity/nitrogen markets, user-pay-principle, polluter-pays-principle and business models for protected areas. My research interest also focuses on reducing and avoiding ecosystem management actions through the reintroduction of missing species.I combine my economic skills with a strong understanding of ecosystem dynamics, the role of keystone species, trophic cascades and missing ecological roles. My series of articles in Wilder (a leading Portuguese nature magazine) explores the potential comeback of more than 20 species in Portugal. Lastly, I have also written more than 30 informative pieces on finance for nature, sustainable development and nature restoration in P Azul (a leading generalist Portuguese newspaper).
