Covering all aspects of sustainability across both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays the role has a major focus on carbon emission mitigation, the reduction of single use plastics and seeking innovative ways to embed sustainability across the business and improve internal and external communications on the subject.

In this varied role working within the Group Sustainability team I focus on reporting processes around sustainability, finding trends and assessing the impact of initiatives implemented. In addition to data analysis the role covers report writing, internal and external communications and seeking innovative ways to improve sustainability across Thomas Cook. All aspects of the work I do is with the aim of maximising our social and ethical impacts whilst reducing or minimising our environmental footprint wherever possible.Responsibilities included compiling and submitting the Group Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) report and the Mandatory Greenhouse Gas reporting. Additional responsibilities included managing the EU EED compliance process across the 16 Group source markets, assessing non-financial data reporting requirements across the Group and setting up the EU ETS and CORSIA carbon compliance strategy for the Group Airline. Major projects included, quantifying plastic usage and reduction for the #noplaceforplastic pledge, keeping track of the hotels sustainability certification scheme and calculating the airline, hotel and transfer emissions data for the Nordic offsetting pledge.

In my role at Swan, I provided EU ETS (both stationary & aviation) and CORSIA consulting services to aircraft operations, ensuring clients are fully compliant with all aspects of the schemes. I help operators to understand their obligations under the continuously fluctuating and complex legislation surrounding both EU ETS and CORSIA.

Regulating aircraft operators who have obligations under the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). Responsibilities included; plan assessment, enforcement, compliance reports, data collation & analysis and provision of guidance and information. I was responsible for recalculating the allocation of free allowances (market value of approximately £40M per annum) for all UK aircraft operators due to the recently revised scope of EU ETS aviation. I input into environmental policy at both a National and International level, representing the UK at the International Civil Aviation Organization and meetings in Europe as member of the GMTF task force (working for the CEAP steering group). This involved helping to draft the monitoring, reporting and verification principals for ICAO’s carbon offsetting and reduction scheme for international aviation (CORSIA). I have experience communicating with a wide range of stakeholders based all over the world.

Involved working in areas including; Noise nuisance, air quality, inspection and audit of industrial processes to ascertain environmental compliance under PPC and IPPC, assessing contaminated land sites under Part II A of the Environmental Protection Act, assessing sites through the planning process, carrying out environmental searches, reviewing reports. I was on a temporary contract in the position of Scientific officer. This contract was extended but when the position closed, I worked for 8 months as an unpaid intern and gained experience in food standards, food safety, vector control and health and safety. I was then offered a position in housing standards department for 7 months assessing the private rented sector housing against the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) before being returned to the post of Scientific Officer on a permanent basis.
