Responsibilities for the graduate assistantship include continuing research for the Stratford Hall project. The focus was specifically on understanding the historic agricultural and forestry practices that shaped the site from the Colonial Era to the present day. To complete this task, data entry and cataloging of files gathered this summer was a necessary. In addition site maps showing structural and characteristic evolution were created with the use of computer programs including AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Additional leads in archival collections led to trips to Duke University, clarifying the image of land use during the Colonial Era. A significant portion of my time spent at the Cultural Landscape Lab was used to help create a historic landscape narrative for Stratford Hall. Additional task included aiding in the creation of restoration phasing plans for the West Garden and the creation of presentation material for the advisory meeting in June.
