Technician/Skills Trainer

Nottingham, United Kingdom

I started working at Central College in December 2013 in the engineering department. My main duties as an engineering technician was to prepare and issue resources to engineering staff and support within the classroom and workshop environments as requested, this often involved demonstrating practical techniques to learner groups. I maintained the workshops ensuring they were clean, tidy and safe at all times, this included distributing materials, stock and equipment and ensuring they were stored correctly and safely. I maintained stock records and assisted with the stocktaking of tooling and equipment. Another one of my roles was to undertake routine maintenance of the machine and tooling used within the workshop, ensuring all machines were clean and tidy, looked presentable and were safe to use. If any member of the lecturing team were on leave or ill I would assist with the supervision of learners and learners groups (including learners attending the College on work experience). Within the first 6 months of starting at Central College i took part in putting together a tri-college competition between ourselves and two other colleges for Level 1/2 learners. There were 3 skill areas; Welding, Automotive and Machining. I worked with a small group of people to put the competition together, everything from transport, accommodation, creating tasks for the competition etc. The event was very successful and we are now hoping to continue this each year.Central College has also recently hosted WorldSkills - Road to Sao Paulo 2015.During this i was the site coordinator for two of our college sites.

Skills Trainer

Nottingham

My role now involves me having groups of learners in a learning environment. I currently have taught on the PEO level 1 & 2 courses as well as the BTEC level 3 course and City & Guilds Level 3 Machining. I have also been a part of the World Skills event in which I was the centre coordinator for two sites at the college. I had regular meetings with the project lead as well as a number of different training managers in order to plan and organize the event so that it could go on without a hitch. The event was very successful; I ended up having one of the quietest sites, in terms of problems, and was invited as a delegate to World Skills Sao Paulo 2015.

The main responsibilities of this job were to ensure that all customers received the highest quality of services. I assisted with the operational running of the bar and ensured that staff members were fulfilling their duties to the best of their ability. This involved providing excellent customer service; maintain high standards of hygiene and health and safety. I had to maintain strict stock and financial control, ensuring at the end of each shift the shelves and fridges were re stocked and any ordering of stock was completed for delivery the next day. My main duties were to supervise the smooth running of the bar; ensure the pub opened on time and that it was ready for business.
