Daniel Whitby is the Director and principal ecologist for AEWC Ltd (Animal Ecology and Wildlife Consultants), a consultancy specialising in rare and protected species surveys, and founder of the Charity Bat Conservation and Research Unit (BatCRU) a charity dedicated to the research and conservation of bats. Nobody is good at everything, as much as you may be an expert in your own specialism, ecology is a wide ranging subject and we cannot know it all. I am fortunate enough to have been trained by some UK experts in their field and surrounded by a team of various specialists, consultants and researchers covering a multitude of specialisms to enable us to successfully complete our organisations projects and goals.With over 15 years working as a consultant and research ecologist I have experience successfully managing a varying multitude of projects for both development and research, often with important time constraints for development submissions, or financial constraints with research projects. I have worked with a range of protected species including all 6 class licenses for bats and a Natural England trainer as well as project licences for all advanced survey methods. Specalising in bats over the last 15 years and advanced bat survey methods and surveying rare woodland bats for both research, conservation and development, I have worked on the rarest UK species and have licences to include radio tracking and was the first to radio tracked all 17 species in the UK both for commercial surveys and research and discovered the last bat species in the UK, the Geoffroy’s bat.Specialties – Project management, UK protected species, Ecological surveys, Development and Bats, Impact assessment, Trapping, Ultrasonic Lures, Radio tracking, Bat Research and conservation, Training advanced bat survey techniques, bats and conflicts, dedication and commitment.
