Served as Project Manager for a multi-million-pound Scottish Enterprise initiative focused on reducing risks in future tidal turbine inter-array cable systems. Led the technical design of the project, converting a heavy-lift gantry barge with a modular, removable deck system and outfitting it with conventional cable-laying equipment. As part of this effort, we successfully designed, developed, and deployed an 11kV cable in a tidal stream with precision, achieving a target placement accuracy within 1 metre, supported by real-time touchdown monitoring.Acted as offshore site lead for the installation of a 50-metre structure, utilising a heavy-lift barge and multicats to ensure high-voltage cable span protection.Offshore operations on heavy lift barges in marine renewable energy projects.Additionally, oversaw the installation of the world’s first diesel-replacement tidal turbine system in a remote region of West Papua. This pioneering project involved mooring a barge in a tidal stream to harness energy from a Schottel turbine, offsetting diesel-generated power at a local pulp and paper mill.Continued to drive business growth within the marine sector by taking a prominent role in industry events, including speaking engagements and presentations at key forums such as All-Energy.

Marine operations and engineering role associated to the subsea construction of anchors, moorings and cables associated to the Pelamis wave machines in the Atlantic test site operated by EMEC. Creating Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments, leading HIRA's and writing Task Specific installation RAMS, obtaining permits and supervising offshore operations for the company. Planning and managing coastal towing using tugs and multi-cats and managing BIMCO contracts. Dealing with harbour authorities and working with harbour pilots to safely move 180m articulated wave machines from port to site during multiple testing regimes. Assisting in O & M in port including the management of diving contractors and a small technical team in a remote location of Orkney. Maintaining complex engineering systems in a R & D project aimed at de-risking novel wave energy technology and reporting on that back to the lead engineers in Edinburgh both verbally and written via Daily Progress Reports and emails.

Working under the Inland Inshore ACOP as a diver and an ADC diving supervisor. Working within a small diving contractor business dealing with clients, regulators, and wider marine industry (vessels, CHA, HSE, MCA) on a wide range of marine projects. On 24/7 365 day contract for all diving operations at the Flotta oil terminal (Talisman/ Repsol) and acting as Performing Authority on the ISSOW turning detailed dive plans in to active permits to work. Diving operations included general inspection work, NDT inspection work of pilings, access ways and infrastructure and regular maintenance work of the Single-Point-Moorings in Scapa Flow including removal and replacement of the main crude and ballast lines. Additional work at the oil terminal involved filling in for marine cover during overhauls such as SPM bearing change.Commercial diving work associated with the establishment of EMEC, involving pre-and post cable lay survey and subsequent diving work for a wide range of marine developers both on site and in harbour. Civil construction work associated with shuttering and concreting of piers and slipways within Orkney Northern Isles. Scientific diving operations and underwater photography and operating under rebreather systems (inspiration classic) as well as commercial SCUBA undertaking many surveys as well as operation of small inspection class ROV, side scan sonar and magnetometer systems for EIA.Diving technician tasks between operations, involving all planned and reactive maintenance of diving systems including certified repair and testing of diving cylinders, 1st and 2nd stage regulators. This competence was often used by local police when I would report on the diving equipment following a fatality.

Working self-employed we undertook the majority of commercial diving work around Orkney with a significant focus on supporting the emerging aquaculture industry. Between commercial jobs acting as a share fisherman on a scallop diving boat, both diving and skippering.During this role i gained an understanding of maritime safety via the Seafish scheme where we gained certificates in basic sea survival, fire fighting and first aid.
