For my undergraduate study at the University of Cambridge, I read Natural Sciences, focusing on Physics, Chemistry, Material Science and Mathematical Methods before specialising in Physics in my third year. For my fourth year, I switched to the Mathematics department (DAMTP) to study Theoretical Physics, taking courses including Quantum Field Theory, the Standard Model and General Relativity. Now I am a Ph.D. student at DAMTP looking at the strongly interacting dynamics of Quantum Chromodynamics, the part of the Standard Model that describes the strong force, via a numerical method called lattice QCD. In my research, I study how quarks and gluons combine into composite states called Hadrons, such as the Proton and the Neutron, and how these emergent hadrons interact. As well as being fascinating in their own right, the strong interactions of QCD have incredibly important real-world consequences from the generation of most of the observed mass in the known universe to the governing of nuclear reactions in stars.
