I am currently the Legal Counsel of SMMT, one of the largest and most influential automotive trade associations in the UK. I am mainly responsible for leading the contract lifecycle under the SMMT Data Intelligence (SDI) business and providing contract and general commercial legal advice and support to SDI.

During my time at the Corporate & Securities Group of King & Wood Mallesons, being one of the largest international law firms in China, my major areas of practice included M&As, IPOs, regulatory compliance and general corporate and employment matters which I had had the opportunities to serve prestigious clients such as multinational conglomerates, state-owned blue-chip companies and renowned listed companies, etc. Among which I was involved in various M&A projects where I actively assisted in the due diligence, contract negotiation and document drafting processes. I was also heavily engaged in handling regulatory compliance matters of several listed companies, to ensure their strict compliance with the latest regulatory requirements and to promptly respond to queries from regulators.This role had provided me with robust training in legal drafting and matter management, precious experience in handling esteemed clients and memorable opportunities to work closely with my team members. I left this role last August to attend to relocation matters.

I was first a trainee solicitor then an associate solicitor at the Corporate and Commercial department of Iu, Lai & Li, a well-established law firm in Hong Kong. During my time at this firm, I mainly focused on IPOs, M&As, regulatory compliance, banking & finance and general commercial matters. Our firm represented some of the largest real estate developers in Hong Kong and in China for multiple M&A transactions involving sale and purchase of land properties. I was also involved in the successful listing or transfer of listing of companies on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as well as the privatisation of a Taiwanese conglomerate. Moreover, I handled the day-to-day compliance matters of various listed companies in Hong Kong, which involved drafting and reviewing announcements, overseeing regulated transactions and providing instance replies to clients’ queries.During these early years of my career, I had had the privilege to work directly under the instructions and supervision of our firm’s partner in multiple cases, which gave me precious opportunities to have some first hand experience in contract and commercial negotiation. I was also entrusted with substantial work such as due diligence, drafting legal memos and assisting transactions, which all helped lay a solid foundation for my career and nurture a good business acumen.

I was a legal clerk at Baker McKenzie, a prestigious international firm, while I was studying Postgraduate Certificate in Laws as a part-time student. I worked in the Banking and Finance Group, where I mainly assisted partners, associates and other team members in handling various complex banking and finance matters. For instance, we represented multiple international banks for providing syndicated term loan facilities to leading PRC-based property developers to finance their real estate projects. These all provided exciting and valuable chances for me to take a glimpse of the legal industry and accumulate hands-on experience.
