A life-long resident of Reston, Virginia, I previously worked at the library of the U.S. Geological Survey for six years. I’m now earning honors in Computer Science and have completed a minor in Economics at George Mason University. After graduating in May 2016, I plan to work as a software developer. (Cumulative GPA: 3.75)Befitting my chosen career, I’ve been developing websites since high school and have a history of success in foreign languages. I also have a long-term interest in music: I’ve been appointed section leader on both violin and viola in orchestras and smaller groups since the age of nine, and have recently been teaching myself the guitar.Beginning in high school, I developed a genealogy website, which has entries on over 36,000 people. It includes a unique “Person in Focus” page, which shows an individual and their immediate relatives, covering four generations. I originally built the website using ASP and MS Access, and later converted it to PHP and MySQL for a modern hosting service. In early elementary school I chose to take before-school classes in Spanish; after two or three years, I found them to be repetitive and switched to French. I went on to finish five years of high school German in three years, earning a 5 on the AP exam, and added Latin as an elective in my senior year. Since then I’ve looked into various other languages as well as writing systems, such as Cyrillic and Chinese. All of this proved useful at the U.S. Geological Survey library when I was assigned to transliterate titles and other information from maps, and later when conducting online research to locate documents for patrons and professional staff.
