I oversaw OpenAI’s technical Safety and Policy functions, and managed the Business Operations team.

I directly managed two technical teams: OpenAI’s natural language processing and music generation teams, along with a technical lead. I also managed the manager of one technical safety team, which focuses on interpretability, and worked closely with researchers, technical leaders and engineers.In addition to these roles, I acted as VP of People, overseeing recruiting, people programs, DEI, learning and development, incubated a new biz ops team, and more.

Led three teams of a total of 26 people across the risk organization, managing 12 reports directly and managing managers of the remaining 14, with an average employee satisfaction rating of 94% across 13 questions. Team achieved 72% decrease in loss rate from peak, reaching its lowest rate in company history. Core Operations: Worked cross-functionally with machine learning, data science, engineering, legal, finance, and vendor management to launch Risk’s first vendor program and develop and iterate on fraud, credit and policy features for models.Underwriting: Conceived of and built out new Underwriting function, hiring and training 9 Underwriters in under 6 months and growing the team to >12 people. Improved CSAT by 14% while more than doubling annual volume. User Policy: With the legal team, developed industry-leading policies on violent extremism, copyright, pseudo-pharma and more. Partnered with machine learning teams to identify and remove thousands of violating users and drive down violation rates by more than 60%.

Shipped escalation flows that reduced analyst overhead by 15% and helped develop new team structure. Analyzed 7,000+ cases of potential fraud, credit, policy violations at 90%quality and 97% CSAT

Founding and leading member of Stripe's recruiting team; I helped grow Stripe from 45-> 300 people. Lead Technical Recruiter: Ran technical recruiting for Stripe, building out team of 5, hiring 92 engineers across 11 teams with >75% close rate. Worked closely with CTO, VP of Engineering, founders and team leads to craft and execute on technical recruiting strategy.Recruiter 1: Ran Stripe recruiting solo for first ~6 months of tenure, running hiring across engineering, risk, machine learning, user ops, finance, sales, biz dev, international, legal and more. Developed comprehensive referral program, built recruiting and closing processes and worked with hiring managers to develop team roles.

Oversaw all scheduling for Congressman Matt Cartwright's Washington, DC office; ran intern recruiting; contributed content to articles and press releases, including an article in US News and World Report.

Developed and implemented a field strategy that delivered a 21-point win, leading a team of field organizers and volunteers during the general election campaign.

Defeated 20-year incumbent by 12 points in nationally-covered primary. Recruited over 80 volunteers and personally made 11,000 voter calls in key districts.

Partnered with CEO to create strategic grant-making plan and deliver development training to senior staff. Co-led training for >50 community health workers at rural field sites.

Project managed grant processes and key personnel recruitment for international development projects in poverty assessment, monitoring and evaluation, conflict mitigation, microfinance and direct cash transfers.
