Daniela Gomes Pinto is Program Officer for South America at the CS Mott Foundation, leading the portfolios on Transforming Development Finance Regionally and Advancing Climate Change Solutions. She is also professor at the Professional Masters on Sustainability at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).Her areas of expertise are territorial governance and community development, social and environmental impacts of mining and infrastructure megaprojects, stakeholder and community strategic engagement, sustainability indicators and participatory approaches, and the social aspects of sustainability.Prior to Mott Foundation, she was head of the Local Development Program at the Center for Sustainability Studies of the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGVces), in São Paulo, Brazil, where she coordinated applied research on Amazonian territories hosting large-scale infrastrucuture and mining projects, including hydropower plants of Belo Monte and Jirau, the federal road BR-319, and the mining plant of Juruti. She also coordinated the collective construction of Guidelines for Large-Scale Projects in the Amazon in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the technical proposal for the participatory assessment of socioeconomic valuation of the mining disaster of the Rio Doce Basin, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and a Protocol for monitoring socioeconomic development of communities displaced by hydropower plants. Prior to FGVces she was the Human Development National Report Coordinator at UNDP Brazil and has led the creation of the new Human Development Index at subnational level in the country. Ms. Pinto holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from University of São Paulo, a master’s degree in Environment & Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the São Paulo Administrative School of Getulio Vargas Foundation.
