I am a Mexican American first-generation student at San Diego State University, currently pursuing my Master's degree in Postsecondary Educational Leadership in Student Affairs (PELSA). I am under a Master's Research Scholarship, where I am engaging in research with Dr. Herrera Villarreal, Dr. Rodriguez-Operana, and their team at the Research and Equity Scholarship Institute on Student Trajectories in Education (RES-ISTE). My current research highlights the effects federal and state policies have on Hispanic-Serving Institutions for STEM servingness. In addition to my research experience, during the academic school year, I also work as a Graduate Assistant with the Tritons Firsts initiative at UC San Diego, where I help first-generation students create a sense of community and celebrate their first-gen identity as a strength. I also serve as the Vice President of University Affairs for the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at San Diego State University. Within this position, I am currently working on efforts to expand our GSA representation to the Imperial Valley Campus. Overall, I plan to continue my studies in learning how to become an equity-minded scholar-practitioner with aspirations of being able to bring these skills into my research and future implementation of policy. I plan to apply to earn a doctoral degree in the field of higher education in hopes of giving back to my community. With that being said, I am looking forward to connecting with you!
