I spent my third summer interning with McCarthy on the Sharp Spectrum Parking Structure down in San Diego, CA. My summer consisted of managing multiple trade subcontractors such as hardscape, landscape, paint, signage, asphalt paving, doors, elevators, and even some electrical and mechanical. The project management team was made up of an assistant superintendent, an assistant project manager, and myself, the project engineer intern. Learning how to be efficient and manage my time to get all my tasks done helped me be successful during my summer internship.

Loma Linda University Medical Center Campus Transformation ProjectI worked on the Loma Linda Campus Transformation Project with McCarthy for a year and three months as an intern. Throughout my internship I learned how to do a plethora of tasks. Some of those tasks include writing requests for information (RFIs), change orders, scheduling and site logistics updates, writing area disturbance notices, and being a trade manager for a company. Some softwares I learned to use were Procore, E-builder, Structionsite, and Bluebeam. As an intern I had the opportunity to be an assistant trade manager for one of the miscellaneous steel subcontractors. Overseeing all guardrail, handrail, bollards, and other site related miscellaneous steel installations in comparison with the contract drawings was one of my specific tasks. With that task, I was in charge of creating and opening any inspections and RFI's for my trade. Assisting my project manager, superintendent, and project engineer with the site build out, punchlist, and project closeout were also tasks I got to assist with.
