My research focuses the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and their services and their ability to acclimate and adapt. We focus on marine ecosystems and their reaction to climate change and response to environmental change. My group and I are internationally know to design and adopt novel tools from a wide range of fields such as biology and engineering to provide novel insights. As Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Science at the University of Bristol, I have lead our REF efforts working with and supporting the UoA leads, founded the Science Partnership office, mentored early career researchers, and worked with colleagues in professional services to reduce the impacts of COVID our our research and researchers. I enjoy working at the interfaces between disciplines, with colleagues in law and human geography, in our interdisciplinary research institutes for health and environmental change, and developing inclusive research cultures with other academics and stakeholders.As coordinating lead author for the WGII IPCC on impacts, adaptation and vulnerability for the assessment on Europe and in my role drafting the Summary for policy makers of the report , I have led on the interface between nature and human adaptation and emphasised the importance in considering vulnerability to climate. Dissemination of the findings of the report to a wide range of stakeholders, and especially working with groups who are often marginalised in these activities , is a main focus of my activities.
