I am an academic researcher in the School of Social Work & Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde. My research interests are in the areas of social justice and inequalities, with a focus on young people's education, participation in society and access to opportunities. I aim to make all research findings relevant to policy, practice and the general public. Over the last two decades, I developed expertise in research, policy and practice in relation to poverty and its impact on education and young people's opportunities, migrant and ethnic minority young people, and issues of inequality and social justice more broadly. My research has received funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, British Academy, Save the Children and the Scottish Government. I regularly provide consultancy and training for local authorities and NGOs in my specialist areas and sit on advisory groups for a range of organisations.I am currently Vice Dean for Research in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, with remit for promoting research activities at Faculty level. I work closely with colleagues in Humanities, Social Sciences and our Centres to promote the application of research into policy and practice. I am keen to connect with organisations we can support with teaching, research and training expertise, or with interest in funding research or studentships.I have been Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2010 and an elected member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy of Scotland between 2014-2018. I am also involved with our Asylum Seeker and Refugee Academics support group, and sit on the Strathclyde University's committee allocating studentships to asylum seeking students in Scotland.I'd welcome requests for collaboration, research and knowledge exchange partnerships, teaching and consultancy.
