Its mission was to transform Samsung's future product and service offerings to U.S. customers through delightful user experiences based on user understanding, design and technological innovation, and novel interface modalities. Its purpose was to create innovative products and experiences that change how people interact with others, entertain themselves and get things done. Its innovations targeted the U.S. consumer market, in the unique properties of U.S. households, lifestyles and leisure activities. Solutions span the range of current Samsung products and also create new categories of products, incl. work on bendable screens, foldable devices, pico-projector extended experiences, AR/VR, AI/ML, cross-device experiences (incl. smart home ecosystem experiences).

For most companies, understanding the complex web of relationships between people, technology and design - the 'user experience' - can be vital in acquiring the competitive edge necessary in today's market place. User research has become an important function in almost all design-oriented industries: from car manufacturers through software development companies to the service industries. Central to many of these activities is the practice of 'design ethnography'. Ethnography is the study and representation of people acting in their cultural settings. It relies on social research methods such as observations and interviews in 'the field'. Design ethnography draws on and adapts these techniques to gather and represent data and insights on design requirements and to leverage these within design and business contexts. The MSc Design Ethnography at Dundee University addresses an industry need for user researchers and design ethnographers who are sensitive to the complexities of delivering high value user data and insight, particularly in global and multi-cultural design and business settings.

Inventing and developing exciting, effective, and satisfying uses of technology at SAP Labs (Palo Alto). Led multi-disciplinary product incubation projects and User Experience team in Hasso Plattner sponsored innovation group reporting directly into SAP's CEO. Breakthrough Concepts, award-winning UX innovations, Design Research, several Patents, instigator & Principal Investigator (PI) on multi-year research collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (Prof. Brad Myers) w executive accolades. DKOM demo finalist award (presented live in front of 50k+ SAP developers) and internal design competition award winning team of two on SAP for Sustainability. Led & initiated concept exploration collaboration project on Design Thinking for Sustainable Enterprise incl. Healthcare, with the Rotman School of Business.

Design Research for Office 11 & 12 as part of the Office Design Group. Usability Engineer for Microsoft's Business Server Applications. Led UX demo project for Bill Gates. Led collaborative research with Illinois University (Urbana-Champaign). Innovation prototypes & user research for Next Gen business productivity environments.

Received the prestigious MacRobertson Scholarship for Exchanges with International Centers of Excellence for research on Cognitive Work Analysis and on Emergence in Systems Requirements at the Swinburne CHI Laboratory in Melbourne, Australia, with Dr. Lorraine Johnston and Prof. Penny Sanderson. Published and presented the results at the Aviation Psychology conference and OzCHI 2000, in Sydney, Australia.

Scientific Research in the Glasgow Accident Analysis Group under Prof Chris Johnson, focusing on critical incident reporting and cognitive modeling to inform root cause analysis of so-called 'human error' and thus informing the design of safety-critical systems. Focus on aviation (cockpit design) and healthcare (neonatal & adult intensive care unit equipment design, procedure definition, and team work analysis through observational research and incident investigation). Guest lecturer in Safety-critical Systems Design in Computing Science, and on Activity Theory in the Psychology department. Wrote and published peer-reviewed papers at conferences and with scientific journals, organized an international workshop on 'Human Error', served on program committees for various international conferences, incl. NASA's IRIA conference. Professional journal published interview in 1999, "the new face of safety engineering".

I taught and tutored Computing Science undergraduate courses on Software Engineering (ADA development) and HCI (Human-Computer Interaction). I marked final exams and helped as a scribe for students with special needs.

Worked with clinical staff in eliciting requirements and validating designs for several medical databases. Designed and implemented these from scratch, and then statistically evaluated clinical data for medical research with doctors in oncology and neurology.
