Working as a senior news reporter across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire at one of the UK’s fastest-growing news sites and biggest regional titles,

As a senior news reporter, I covered breaking news across the county and crime, as well as covering Magistrates’, Crown and Coroners' courts. I was also fortunate enough to explore my passion for human interest stories and real-life features, looking at the individuals and businesses that make Derbyshire great.

I then stepped into the trainee reporter role full-time before sitting my Reach CoJ in November 2022.

While continuing my role as the publication’s Life Writer. I started training for my Reach Certificate of Journalism in news reporting (the in-house equivalent of the NQJ) to become a senior news reporter. I balanced What’s On content with hard news reporting.

During my internship at LeftLion, I contributed to both the online magazine and September print edition. I produced both shorter and longer form pieces. These ranged from concise collaborative articles to first person narratives, Q&As and features. I also aided with proof reading the print magazine and gained an understanding of how editors collaborate with designers to produce flawless copy and design.

Between my second and third year at the University of Nottingham, I spent four weeks interning with the interpreting company, Voices in Refuge, who provide ethically trained interpreters to both the Nottingham Refugee Forum and the wider community. In my role as an independent evaluator, I looked at the work Voices in Refuge has done over the past year and wrote a 10,000 word report in order to help them achieve funding. I also gave a presentation at the end of my placement to staff, interpreters and clients in order to complement my written report.
