Profile bio

About Daniel Novoa

I love building and working with my hands, especially when it comes to chemistry. If I am not setting up a reaction, then there is a good chance that I am building a device to innovate or improve my chemistry. I explored this under the mentorship of Professor Erik Sorensen (author of Classics in Total Synthesis). I also had the opportunity to develop methods in photoredox catalysis while working with Professor David MacMillan (2021 Chemistry Nobel Prize Laureate). It has been my distinct pleasure to combine both of these experiences into a unique research career at Princeton University. My training includes homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst design, dual catalytic methodology and reaction development, organic synthesis, and solid-phase peptide synthesis over a 10-year scientific research career. I have the technical expertise in the modern experimental methods required for small molecule synthesis, purification, and characterization. I have experience in the design, proposal, and execution of solo projects and multidisciplinary collaborations. I aim to apply these skills as either a medicinal or process chemist.I have presented my work at over 25 conferences and have won awards in 4 out of 5 competitive events. It has been a pleasure to connect with other young scientists at each conference, and I believe that having an eye for aesthetics and confidence in public speaking are critical to be an effective science communicator. I'm always looking to expand my personal and professional network.
