Being responsible for the company operations and quality assurance, my main responsibilities were:- Identify and map operational processes, create standard operational procedures;- Conceive the quality system, successfully got ISO 9001 certification;- Define and monitor relevant KPIs; e.g. team and client satisfaction, success in quality audits and % of product defects;- Conceive periodic data dashboards, monitor key metrics and performance, including define necessary corrective actions;- Create and monitor the annual company budget; that was successfully met;- Define strategic planning activities, e.g. setting annual company objectives to achieve shared organizational goals;- Support the financial department in the preparation of the annual accounting report;- Identify HR needs and start the recruitment processes;- Coach and manage team members, leading them into their KPIs and towards personal growth;- Plan and make internal quality assurance audits; that were successfully conducted.

In charge of the Business Development and Marketing areas, main responsabilities comprise: -Create and manage the business development department - with sales grow over 50%;- Spearheaded the new website, still in use today, with the IT team to communicate with clients and healthy volunteers;- Manage social media, in order to appeal to healthy volunteers and successfully grew our database;- Conceive periodic newsletters to clinical researchers;- Conceive and implement annual sales plan and manage its budget;- Establish a relationship with national and international clients, opened two new international markets;- Manage and coach BD team, leading them into their KPIs and towards personal growth;- Negotiate performance objectives;- Create the company’s internationalization plan as well as the application to P2020 funds, which were awarded.

Conceive the management control system and procedures;Define relevant KPIs; e.g. nº of active clinical trials, nº of active clinical researchers and time to negotiate clinical trial contracts;Monitor performance, create periodic reports and dashboards, identifying any relevant deviations and proposing appropriate corrective measures;- Participate in strategic planning activities;- Support the preparation of annual budget;- Analyze potential investments, regarding profitable mergers and acquisitions;- Define individual objectives and align them with team member.

- Participate in the design and implementation of 4 clinical studies;- Liaise with research teams to evaluate the clinical potential of their research, manage H2020 project participation;- Consultancy on tech transfer strategy and roadmap for over 10 start-ups;- Communicate with regulatory authorities (GARC) for over 5 clients.

I was invited to join the 3 months advisory board “The Future of Bioelectronic Medicine” as a member. This group aims at unerstanding which medical conditions are most amenable to beinf treated with Bioelectronic Medicine, as well as, fundamentals, current direction, and key players in Bioletronic medicine and to coalesce initial thoughts on delineating a development roadmap for BioelectronicMedicine.

I have done my PhD under the supervision of Doctor Ana Paula Pêgo and co-supervision of Doctor João Relvas. My work aimed at unraveling the influence of mechanotransduction in the central nervous system, specifically in pahological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, envisaging its modulation towards the design of new regenerative therapies. I have explored the inhibitory influence of astrocytes and extracellular matrix on myelination, and further explored related signalling pathways.During this period I have: - Launched new in vitro culture systems, new CNS primary cell isolation methods in the lab;- Analyzed data and designed experiments;- Communication: 7 oral presentations in international conferences (5 by invitation), write 3 + 5 scientific articles for peer reviewed journals and a patent (WO 2014116132 A1);- Tutor 3 students in lab animal sciences practices;- Co-supervised a master student from Twente University.

I have been involved in several financed R&D projects aiming at developing therapeutic strategies for central nervous system regeneration. Particularly the development of 3D biocompatible polymeric scaffolds for spinal cord injury regeneration. I have dedicated a considerable part of my time planning and executing in vitro cytotoxicity tests according to the ISO standard 10993-5:1992. I further acquired knowledge in cell isolation and culture, in fluorescent and confocal microscopy and in lab animal handling (FELASA C). As a research assistant I also had the opportunity to work for 3 months in Aberdeen, Scotland, at the Aberdeen University Life Sciences Facilities.
