• Served and advised a Congressional co-chair in developing strategies to promote, defend, and advocate for internationally recognized human rights norms related to the role of the U.S. Congress. • Managed the East Asia and Southeast Asia regional portfolio, which includes researching, writing, and advising on human rights issues related to states, regional institutions and intergovernmental organizations, as well as on U.S. foreign policy matters with a particular focus on North Korea, China, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as Bangladesh and Western Sahara. • Managed the portfolio on mechanisms to advance international criminal accountability, which involved tracking, advising, and proposing sponsorship of legislative initiatives. • Raised greater awareness of human rights issues to Members of Congress, as well as to the public, by organizing Congressional hearings and briefings, drafting public statements, remarks, and letters, and circulating mass communication to interested groups and the media, among other activities. • Engaged with Members’ offices to advocate for the release prisoners of conscience through the Commission’s Defending Freedoms Project.
