Supervisor
Duties Include: Advising on health conditions customers may have and what health products are most beneficial and appropriate, providing excellent customer service through serving customers and receiving feedback through returning customers and reviews, assisting customers with health, nutrition and dietary needs, adjusting stock levels so the store can have an accurate measure of stock and sales, promoting new ranges and products, processing sales and handling cash, actively managing theft prevention, tidying displays and managing delivery.I have worked at Holland & Barrett throughout my university studies and have learnt a great deal from working within this business. I have achieved 2x A Level equivalent qualifications in nutrition and am qualified to advise on various supplements as well as advise on various health conditions.I often spend my time on the shop floor rather than the tills as i really enjoy advising customers and helping them find the right product to meet their needs. I believe in the entire customer journey which involves greeting them as they enter the store, all the way through to processing their sale after advising them. I like how this approach is consistent and personal to their experience so they feel more valued that i have spent a decent amount of time assisting them. It is also required that i undertake regular training updates on new and existing ranges in order to keep my knowledge as expansive and accurate as possible. This is done through online tests and resources, resulting in a better experience for the customer so they can leave feeling more educated not only about the product, but also themselves. For me, teaching is the key to better customer service, not telling, and always done respectfully with the customers consent.
Price Integrity & Customer Assistant
Duties Included: handling money and filling tills with money from cash office so store could trade effectively, assisted with customer needs and supporting disabled and vulnerable customers, excellent knowledge of product variety, exact locations and alternative, assisted with training new starters and helping other colleagues maintain their skills, demonstrated excellent customer service by dealing with customer complaints, gained understanding of business operations through completing legal paperwork meaning store traded legally when opened, handling large promotional changes in order to amend product prices and marketed offers in line with new promotions, learned how to remain flexible and manage time in order to cope with heavy workload and demanding deadlines, built customer relations and promoted the brand through in store promotions and community projects.I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tesco as the store was a very community driven and friendly store to be a part of with a lot of regular, loyal customers that you'd seen every week.I began working on checkouts but changed positions to Price Integrity as there became a vacancy that i was interested in pursuing.During this time it was my responsibility to work throughout the night in order to perform promotional changes and adjust pricing as well as process legal paperwork in order to ensure the store was trading legally. This would require a great amount of attention to detail and i would have to be able to work very quickly in order to complete the large workload given in a short amount of time. Half way through the night, a colleague would join me and we would then complete any work that needed to be done and i would be able to handover to them at the end of my shift knowing that my job had been performed to a high standard. The result of our work would be the correct pricing and merchandising of the store so that the store could easily progress to the next event/promotion very smoothly.
Management Trainee
Duties Included: Serving Customers alcohol and food, enforcing Challenge 25, maintaining hygiene standards in the business, delegating staff, taking bookings and hosting the restaurant, cashing up servers and end of day tasks, closing down bar and restaurant, disposing of food waste effectively, enforcing kitchen standards of good practice, portioning food for service and food prep in kitchen, changing barrels in bar, emptying fruit machines and cash machines and dealing with large amounts of cash.I began working at this Harvester as a barman and within a short space of time, i had trained in every front of house role within the business until becoming a management trainee at 19 years old. This shows my level of professionalism, responsibility and capability.I focused mainly on assisting the manager with the running of the restaurant and would regularly work over 48 hours per week. My role every shift could change depending on what was required to make the restaurant run effectively. I could be running the bar one shift and running the restaurant the next. I enjoyed mostly waiting a section of tables as it gave me the best opportunity to focus on the customers and their needs on a more personal and intimate level. It was usually my responsibility to focus on where the short comings were in that particular day/shift and eradicate them by supporting whatever area needed to be aided, even if that meant cleaning and laying tables for the servers in between customers if the servers became too overwhelmed as the restaurant was often full and very busy. As a result, the restaurant usually always ran smoothly and the profits reflected that as we were one of the most profitable restaurants in the area.
Volunteer
Duties Included: Processing transactions and handling cash, cleaning and processing donations ready for resale, sorting through donations to decide what can't be resold and processing them for collection and recycling, reorganising entire stock room for Manager, carrying and moving heavy objects throughout store to assist and alleviate extra duties for manager, maintaining tidiness of store and visual merchandising displays to create more appeal and drive sales.I started volunteering with Oxfam during a time where i had been made redundant from my previous employer as they had relocated offices hundreds of miles away. It was rewarding and enjoyable for a time and the manager appreciated my presence as i was the only male volunteer in the store and as a result, was tasked with the more laborious tasks which i had no problem doing. It felt nice to be valued and useful and i liked being kept busy and making a difference within the store. One of the bigger projects i was tasked with was tidying and organising the donations within all of the stores back areas and storage. There was no order and donations just seemed to be piled on top of one another as it seemed that the sheer amount had become overwhelming for the manager and current volunteers to sort through. It was my responsibility to fix this issue and through that, the store would be able to find donations easier and organise them by seasons or categories. The appropriate donations could then be displayed on the shop floor and in turn, sales could increase due to more appealing items on display. I was given free rein to spend a good amount of time removing all items from the spaces, sourcing racks, containers and any items that would help me organise appropriatly so that things could be easier to find and process for sale. As a result, the stores back areas were a lot cleaner and easier to navigate which saved everyone a lot of time and made for a more effective and smoother operation to run behind the scenes.
Order Processor
Duties included: receiving inbound calls and conducting outbound calls, processing mobile phone contracts and orders, performing credit checks on customer orders and approving orders, chasing leads on incomplete or incorrect orders, opening mail and processing cash back claims, dealing with customer care and complaints.I began and continued this role on a part time basis on weekends to support my college education until my departure. It was a more sales based role which focused on hitting targets for the opportunity for commission.I worked in a small team on the weekend which would process orders and chase incomplete orders so that contracts could be completed and the contracts that were not completed first time would not be neglected. Due to the sales based incentives, the team would have friendly competition in order to push ourselves to achieve more for ourselves and the business.
