Studying theoretical physics, then diving headfirst into cutting-edge experimental work as an undergraduate—an experience that left an indelible mark. While my career trajectory can't be described as linear, I hope it reflects my unwavering dedication to becoming an outstanding experimental researcher.In 2022, I graduated from the University of Manchester with first-class honours in theoretical physics (integrated masters). During my final year, I collaborated with Manchester's Nanoengineering and Spintronics group, igniting a profound enthusiasm for experimental work. Our project flourished, culminating in presentations at national and international conferences. My lab partner and I were honoured with the 2021/22 Platt Prize for exceptional experimental work by final year students.Post-graduation, I endeavoured to apply my skills at an industrial level. Rapid prototyping, interdisciplinary teamwork, and technical project planning—these are a few skills I'm grateful to have cultivated, opportunities I might have missed in an academic trajectory. I've also honed my proficiency in Python and LabVIEW to an industry standard, enriching my toolbox and bolstering my confidence in developing algorithms for practical applications (though I anticipate AI rendering these skills obsolete in the next five years).Looking ahead, I aspire to occupy a role which is more sustainability focussed, helping to achieve the UK's 2050 Net Zero goals. Over the past year, I've developed a fervent interest in the challenges facing our species. While daunting, I maintain optimism that we will meet the necessary objectives. It's an honour and a responsibility to exist during this critical juncture in history. I'm intensifying my efforts by volunteering for the local wildlife trust and supporting projects globally. However, my ultimate dream is to return to academia and pursue a Ph.D. in climate/environmental physics.
