• Built the Academic Support Team, tutors who addressed 100s of student questions per month, graded assignments, and led discussion boards for ~100 simultaneous online courses, improving NPS and course outcomes.• Established “academic model for partner institutions,” a playbook for how to implement Outlier’s course platform and materials into online degree programs, in compliance with regulatory guidance on distance education• Set KPIs and worked with data science teams to instrument automated dashboards to track progress, as well as an early alert system used to flag students and get them additional help

Our team was responsible for monitoring and improving retention and student success for 100,000 students across 44 virtual, online charter schools. I developed and used data analytic tools to understand trends and identify areas where we can continue to improve. We used the data analyses to inform pilot initiatives meant to address issues that were leading students to leave Connections Academy. For example, we launched a peer mentoring program to help students feel more socially connected, and individualized video progress reports for learners and their caretakers to help them understand students' progress in developing social-emotional learning skills.

Led the Learning Science Research team, setting strategic research priorities and managing those projects.Collaborated with learning designers, product developers, editorial managers, data scientists, platform engineers, and many others to help embed efficacy & research throughout product development processes.Some specific focus areas I am particularly proud we got to work on include:- Improving the digital reading experience to support better comprehension and memory- Embedding theory-based, empirically-tested approaches to improve motivation into digital homework, and running rigorous tests to assess their impact- Supporting students' study strategies and skills, helping them learn how to study more effectively

Synthesized, communicated, and applied Learning Science research to improve design, strategy, and marketing, among other aspects of the business. Led cross-functional research projects to investigate the impact of improvements, such as "growth-oriented" feedback messages to improve persistence.

I worked with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and evaluate Intelligent Tutoring Systems (web-based software) that help elementary school students learn fractions. The focus of the project is on enabling opportunities for two students to productively collaborate, even when working remotely. I also led efforts to integrate information from synchronized eye-tracking data to understand the dynamics of productive collaboration, and how it can be scaffolded through effective instructional design.
