As this change was as a result of an acquisition I am maintaining the role that I played at MasteryConnect with the exception of running all the AWS resources, budgeting, security, and process for not only MasteryConnect but other projects at Instructure that I have been asked to watch over.

As the Director of DevOps I am in charge of all of our AWS resources. My responsibilities include, Budgeting, Security, and keeping our scaling adjusted to serve constantly changing using patterns. While in charge of our AWS resources I have converted our management from an entirely manual process to an Infrastructure as Code process using Terraform. I have setup security policies that allow us to house sensitive data while having audit trails for access and allowing our developers to still do their jobs without risking our customers data. I have also been able to take out AWS spend down by 2/3, all while taking more traffic and data in year over year. I have also taken our deployment processes from a long manual process that was high risk to a CI/CD process that makes it so we can deploy at any time during the day, even during peak traffic, with very low risk and no intervention from a human needed. It makes deployments so much safer and less prone to human error.

As VP of Engineering at MasteryConnect I was in charge of running the Development Team, QA Team, Mobile Team, and DevOps Team. I worked on growing all the teams to a total of 50 people. I also worked on making sure that projects were running well, helping to architect projects, and setting up processes to make the teams and projects run smoothly. I helped to setup team structures, hire the team at a rather excelerated pace as desired by our CEO, and I helped develop our development process so that we could track progress and ensure that we had a safer development environment being that we had so many people commiting code to our codebase.

MasteryConnect is the largest social network for teachers sharing assessments around the Common Core. We help teachers track mastery of standards, share formative assessments, and collaborate around state and Common Core standards.

Worked on a myriad of projects creating various sites, helping others work out problems on projects and creating CMS sites. Mainly working in ASP, PHP, MySQL, XHTML/HTML5, CSS, and Javascript.Some clients include:EconovaI had to create a website that would be used for international business. The site had to be flexible to change with industry needs and needed to be easily updated by people who only had a basic understanding of the web. I used PHP, MySQL and Javascript to create a website with a clean professional business feel. The site had an administration area that allowed for dynamic creation of pages as well as the entire site menu system.Medical Review Institute of AmericaI was contracted to build a website that would be functionally easy for both employees and guests to use, while making updates to the site easy. ASP was extensively used to build a dynamic website that allowed easy content editing with a graphical editing interface built from scratch.TheraprimeI was given a Power Point Presentation that I had to directly create a simple website from. I use HTML, Javascript, CSS, Macromedia Fireworks, and Macromedia Dreamweaver to accomplish the job from scratch.PerigeWorked on integrating reCaptcha with a couple of forms and streamlining how the forms worked.

I was in charge of a team of 13 developers. I have to scope new projects, make sure that deadlines are being met, make sure that client’s needs are being met, and that the development team is happy and has what they need to be productive. I have worked hard to setup processes and infrastructure to make us a better more agile development team as well as help the team to feel like a recognized individual even though we have been growing and expanding the team quickly. I also keep a close eye on the quality of work and make sure that the developers on my team always go the extra mile to give a bit more to our clients.

Axis41 is a fast paced agency that has some really large clients and fast deadlines. I was involved with many projects for clients such as FranklinCovey, Novell, Ciena, and O.C. Tanner utilizing technologies like MySQL, ASP.Net, Java, Ruby, PHP, and some Objective-C. I brought the Evergreen framework to the company and played a key roll in getting it to become our framework of choice when building new projects. With Evergreen the development team has been able to grow alot and take on larget projects while being able to turn them around at a quicker pace. I have also played a big roll in scoping and architecting projects at Axis41.

Assessments.com is a fast growing company with great people working there. I work on a team with 3 other developers working with ASP, AJAX, CSS, Javascript and MSSQL. We create varying types of assessments mainly for government agencies such as jails and courts. The assessment tools that we built help courts and jails decide what to do with offenders such as how to best help them, if they are likely to re-offend and if they need to stay longer in jail. I work with multiple accounts at the same time on a daily basis facing tight deadlines constantly. It is a great environment and a lot of fun to work with different people all over the state.

I was one of 2 senior developers in charge of new technologies and our core MVC framework on which we used to build many sites. I was a major contributor to the conceiving and building of the homegrown MVC framework that we used. My major responsibilities included building and maintaining portfolios of websites as well as conceiving and building new technologies to solve problems that we encountered. I worked a lot in PHP doing object orientated programming along with using MySQL and Subversion.

I was in charge of all IT in the company including running and maintaining the servers, managing the many domains, keeping all the computers up to date and running, and building new sites. I continued to add to and develop the company's many domains as well as the company's intranet site. I better integrated the company’s many domains that allowed the sites to take a higher workload that increased the company's capacity for doing business exponentially.

I had to create a website the would impress potential customers and give PSC a place to show off what they can do. I used Macromedia's flash and Javascript to create a graphically pleasing and functional site.

While working as an intern I had to create a simple website and make it easy for the rest of the company to update it using Microsoft Word. This was accomplished by using HTML and Server Side Includes.
