As a contingency worker at Facebook on the Corporate Infrastructure Ops team, I get my fingers in to a wide variety of tools and technologies. While I generally focus on implementing coded infrastructure with Chef and related tools, I wear whatever hat is required by the task at hand. This includes (but is not limited to): VMWare ESX, DNS and IP.

At Savant my focus was building and maintaining cloud infrastructure with Chef and AWS. Projects included: implementing Geo based, high availability DNS using Dyn's Traffic Director product; built a VPN solution for interconnecting AWS VPCs in different availability zones complete with fail-over and monitoring, and worked on completely rebuilding the AWS.

Sonic bought Simple Star in 2009 and I transitioned to the new company. My role ended up being a bit unique in the company. I kind of 'straddled' a couple of different teams. My position was something akin to "the IT guy on the core web services team" and functionally it was more like 'the Linux guy on the Windows team." It took a little getting used to.

I was responsible for most aspects of the FreeBSD and Ubuntu based server environment including: networking, provisioning, troubleshooting, data center migration, MySQL configuration and management, and emergency response.Key achievements were building a 'cradle to grave' server provisioning and deployment system for our FreeBSD web application servers.

I built and maintained several HPC holographic rendering farms, as well as key support systems. Key achievements were replacing expensive, proprietary cluster management software with an open source alternative, and assisting in building and stabilizing a key purpose built image processing server.
