Being a principal systems administrator encompasses two major roles; A senior systems administrator and a team lead. Both are equally important, but only one can be taught. As a senior systems administrator, I provide subject-matter expertise in the implementation and management of technologies that support a 40,000+ user Active Directory forest which services internal users as well as Line-of-Business functions. This includes not only planning and execution of major tasks like Active Directory migrations but also optimization efforts. A company like TeleTech doesn't stand still. They are constantly acquiring new customers and new lines of business. This requires a cyclic optimization to ensure that the environment keeps up with the demand of increased utilization and dependence. For example, new tools (and revisions of existing tools) must be regularly evaluated and re-evaluated for their value, utility and cost-effectiveness. However, rarely do any new technologies work they way they're advertised. Successful optimization and maintenance of an Active Directory environment requires careful planning and the technical agility to quickly troubleshoot and compensate for issues that arise as new rollouts or reconfigurations go sideways, which they always do.As a team lead, I provide mentoring and guidance to junior administrators to help foster the attention-to-detail that separates junior admins from senior admins. Junior admins today are highly skilled and very technically talented. However there are certain skills that can only be learned the hard way. Things like the self-discipline to stick to change control or business processes regardless of how cumbersome they can appear, while also knowing when it's time to deviate from those constructs because it's the right thing to do. There is no "checklist" to determine when it's appropriate to go to heroic lengths to keep a task or project from failing and when it's acceptable to allow it to fail.

Established by the American Indian Trust Fund Management Reform Act of 1994 (Public Law 103-412), the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians (OST) was created to improve the accountability and management of Indian funds held in trust by the federal government. As trustee, the Department of the Interior has the primary fiduciary responsibility to manage both Tribal trust funds and Individual Indian Money (IIM) accounts, as well as the resources that generate the income for those accounts.The IT Services group for OST ensures that the Special Trustee and staff have the best tools available to serve the Indian benificiary. One of the most important functions of the OCIO is to ensure that all trust data including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is protected and secured in accordance with Federal laws and mandates. As Lead Systems Administrator I lead a team of engineers and developers in designing, implementing and maintaining all IT systems at OST.
