He has returned to Veracity Worldwide as Senior Counselor, after spending a year leading Davidson College's Dean Rusk International Studies Program.Daniel’s Senior Foreign Service career at the U.S. Department of Commerce culminated in an assignment as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia, one of the agency’s top three Foreign Service positions. In that role, he led a team of 270 officials in the U.S. and in 28 countries promoting America's economic security by increasing U.S. exports, removing market barriers for U.S. companies, and expanding European investment in America. Daniel also served as Commerce’s Executive Director for Western Hemisphere and in diplomatic assignments in Spain, Panama, Brazil, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Daniel’s work on digital transformation and the use of data to drive outcomes had a global impact on Commerce’s operations. As Director of the Office of Digital Initiatives, he led the implementation of Salesforce for Commerce in over 76 countries, now used to capture $124 billion in economic benefits for 33,000 U.S. companies each year. As Vice President for Commerce’s Foreign Service at the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) he spearheaded a campaign with a national network of U.S. exporters that convinced Congress to vote for $59 million more in FY20 funding than Commerce requested.Prior to Daniel’s diplomatic career, he held engineering management positions in the private sector with Accel, Sequoia, and Benchmark VC-funded ecommerce startups, Schlumberger, Amsted Rail, and as an MIT consultant for Hewlett-Packard. He received a BSE from Princeton University, an MA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia, and MS and MBA degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a Leaders for Global Operations fellow. He also holds a master’s certificate in IT Project Management from George Washington University.Daniel has served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, AFSA, the American Chambers of Commerce in Mexico, Spain, and Panama, and the American School in Brazil.
