About Daniel Dvorak

In today’s fast pasted, ever changing, technological world, it is vital to adapt and find out of the box solutions for today’s complex problems. I am passionate about just that. I am driven to find solutions to complex engineering problems, no matter how challenging they might be. I love learning new skills and techniques to use in coming up with creative, out of the box solutions. Simply stated, I am a problem solver who finds the optimum solution for all stakeholders.I worked on many additive manufacturing products, helping to bring them to market. I worked on design, structural analysis, and process development and analysis for these AM parts, resulting in increased performance, decreased part count and reduced weight.♦ I performed FEA on a new AM integrated fuel pump and control culminating in manufacture of two prototypes with greater than a 50% weight reduction.♦ I analyzed and improved AM capabilities as a member of a cross functional team resulting in bringing an AM fuel nozzle to market. Also, I conducted some very detailed and complicated finite element analyses. I have performed fatigue life, crack initiation and growth analysis; high stress and high temperature analysis; defect analysis; and dynamic analysis.♦ I increased mean time between unscheduled removals saving customers over $70,000 by replicating and analyzing high cycle fatigue field failures of an IFPC and applying damage tolerance principles.♦ I resolved an overstress failure while simultaneously decreasing the weight 0.1 pound of an actuator by using optimization techniques with FEA.I don’t shy away from practical manufacturing problems. I was a member of a material review board which dispositions discrepant hardware. I designed manufacturing and test fixtures to reduce the time and ergonomic strain for production of several different products.♦ I reduced defective castings from a greater than 95% defect rate to a less than 5% rate by leading a project balancing manufacturing and quality assurance capabilities with engineering and customer requirements. My expertise includes:► Finite Element Analysis► High and Low Cycle Fatigue► Thermal Analysis► Additive Manufacturing► Computer Aided Design and Drafting► Computer Programming► Hydraulic Component Analysis► Supplier / Outsourcing ManagementI recognize my skills are applicable to a wide range of industries, and I always look forward to an opportunity to learn something new. I am available to discuss new opportunities in the Des Moines metro or virtual (remote). Please contact me at danielddvorak@gmail.com.

Listed skills include Matlab, Solidworks, Fortran, Design, and 14 others.

Structural Engineer Iii

Current

Kent, WA, US

  • Co-lead New Glenn Umbilical Structural Analysis Group to analyze and verify structural integrity of ground to rocket umbilical interface for New Glenn launch vehicle. Assigned, reviewed, and approved analysis work.
  • Developed and implemented Kanban tracking tool to more effectively communicate to stakeholders priorities, see scope, resource planning, which increased efficiency of workflow by 50%.
  • Resolved unique analysis situations with senior engineering leadership including an undersized bolted joint with large, enforced displacements on 7 panels.
  • In-house ANSYS expert for Umbilical Structural Analysis Group where I trained, answered questions and troubleshooted all ANSYS Workbench issues.
  • Collaborated closely with design engineer to finalize and validate design of environmental control system (ECS) panel.
Jun 2021 - Present

Structures Engineer

Charlotte, North Carolina, US

  • I worked remotely from West Des Moines, Iowa.Performed structural analysis on various aircraft parts focusing on fuel controls, actuators, and pumps primarily using FEA. Reviewed test plans and results, and supplier.
  • Performed FEA on new AM integrated fuel pump and control (IFPC) culminating in manufacture of two prototypes with greater than a 50% weight reduction.
  • Increased MTBUR (Mean Time Between Unscheduled Removals) saving customers over $70000 by replicating and analyzing high cycle fatigue field failures of an IFPC and applying damage tolerance (DT) principles.
  • Conducted FEA to replicate a low cycle fatigue test failure of an IFPC and improved design by lowering stress over 50% to meet operational life requirements.
  • Resolved an overstress failure while simultaneously decreasing weight 0.1 pound of an actuator by using optimization techniques with FEA.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Charlotte, North Carolina, US

  • Designed gas turbine fuel nozzles from conceptual through detailed design including validation by analysis and testing of thermal, stress, and vibration environments. Assist manufacturing engineer to resolve discrepant.
  • Utilized FEA with service data to justify increasing MTBO (Mean Time Between Overhaul) by two times of a fuel nozzle.
  • Insured product integrity while cutting down scrap by dispositioning out of print hardware as a member of the Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Partnered with manufacturing engineer designing two test and manufacturing fixtures reducing manufacturing time.
  • Reduced defective castings from a greater than 95% defect rate to a less than 5% rate by leading a project balancing manufacturing and quality assurance capabilities with engineering and customer requirements.
  • Analyzed and improved AM capabilities as a member of a cross functional team resulting in bringing an AM fuel nozzle to market.
