DG COMP set up a Data and AI innovation cell to develop Artificial Intelligence solutions, and conduct research experiments to identify data-related innovations, particularly in AI that provide added value for competition enforcement. This mission requires hands-on input from and interaction with case teams, through joint data projects with case teams addressing their pressing data needs.The team delivers agile advanced data and artificial intelligence solutions like: - Design and Implementation of the Machine Learning Platform for the operationalization of ML at DG COMP. - Document content search solutions that adapt to the needs of the case teams for cases that require special document review solutions. - Ad hoc NLP projects for document classification, BERT powered similarity search, entity extraction, etc. - Custom data extractions and aggregations, such as web scrapping or data files analysis.

The Data and AI Team of DG COMP aims to be the task force to address all the complex problems related to data that can be targeted using advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions, within the context of Competition in the European Single Market. The problems that are addressed are mostly related to text processing, as there are many repetitive tasks that can be automated with the use of advanced analytics solutions. The team is also in charge of setting up the necessary infrastructure and data-centric methodologies.Among the most important tasks the Data and AI team has are:● Gather requirements from the different stakeholders in the directorate to propose solutions to their business problems.- Define the methodology and needed infrastructure to support the solution.- Design, implement, test and deploy the advanced analytics solutions- Maintain the created solutions.
