I'm establish in Munich (Germany) from where I supported the growth of the Galileo constellation from the initial testing satellites up to the operational constellation we have today. We are proud when saying that we provide Europe with his own Global Navigation Satellite System. Still, a large amount of challenges are ahead to improve our services to the next level.

Within GfR I had the opportunity to move from a Ground Operations Engineering position (GOE) in 2015 to deputy manager in 2017, to Ground Operations Manager (GOM) in 2018. As a GOM, I am responsible to manage together with the Ground Director and the Ground Engineer Manager a team of ~20 high skilled engineers.My main responsabilities on my manager role are:- Define team priorities and overall goals, communicating and monitoring those;- Define individual SMART goals together with each engineer and help each of them to achieve those goals considering their development level;- Maintain schedule and milestones;- Ensure proper resource and task planning focus on milestones and priories;- Structure the work and redefine processes as needed;- Communication with higher management;- Understand and integrate dynamically the customer needs;- Daily and monthly reporting;- Performance monitoring of the team and of the client related KPIs;- Recruitment of new candidates;- Ensure adequate training for newcomers;- Maintain motivation and team culture;- Technical inputs for change proposals and bids;- Contribute on development of LEOP, GTS, G2G, L2/L3 and HACS capabilities.

As a Ground Operations Engineer (GOE) in the Galileo Control Center (GCCD, Munich DE), the scope of my role was to support the grown of the ground segment in parallel to the frenetic grown of the flying constellation. My main tasks here were:- Monitoring and control of the GCS Control Segment (GCS) in a daily basis (includes SCOS5, MOIS5, M&C, 6x S-Band antennas, planning & FD facilities, etc.)- Generate and maintain the ground operations documentation (OPSWEB, Ground Operational Procedures, Ground Operational Plans, Flight Operational Procedures developed in MOIS5, etc.)- Usage of the operational tools as required (e.g. OPSWeb, OPSLog, ARTS, ILS, etc.)- Monitor service performances and trigger corrective actions.- Follow up/support multiple reviews, milestones and workshops.- Generation of management reports.- Support anomaly & configuration processes.- Support constellation planning for ground activities.- Preparation and execution of GCS OPS validation activities. - Execution of routine GCS operations.- Coordination and execution of launch preparation activities (including system test on ground, key loading, listen in test with launch pad, external TTC testing, etc.)- On-console special operations (e.g. LEOP C&C HO, PF Commissioning, manouver phase, IOT, insertion into routine phase, avionic SW upload). - Take over 24/7 on call duty for contingency operations support- Support training of new team members.- Coordination with the different project segments (run by companies like GfR, AD&S, Thales, Telespazio, ESA, GMV, SCISYS, CGI, VEGA, etc.).In brief I would say that this role helped me to gain maturity as engineer. It was full of continuous technical & schedule challenges (from 0 satellites to a full constellation being operated). I am very proud about how our team was able to tackle each of the battles to maintain the system working, the people happy and most important, to gain a very high team reputation within the project.
