About Daniel Domit
As an Engineering Research Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, I've gained knowledge on technical procedures relating to analyzing and testing materials such as X-ray diffraction analysis and compression testing. I have also gained skills in Microsoft Excel for use in data analysis. I would enjoy a career in aerospace and/or material science. That being said, I have the technical expertise and quick wit to tackle any general engineering tasks thrown my way.Outside of academics and work, I maintain a balance between mind and body through tennis and running. These activities keep me happy and enhance my problem-solving abilities, agility, discipline, and mental coordination.

Student Technician/Undergraduate Research Assistant
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Working on research on concrete field exposure blocks from Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that are not showing the same behavior as laboratory tests. Analyzing data comparing qualitative damage to standard concrete blocks and concrete blocks containing fly ash, as well as the concentration of compounds to identify and mitigate delayed ettringite formation (DEF) which causes more catastrophic failure than structures exclusively affected by alkali-silica reaction (ASR). Our goal with this research is to change official concrete specifications which would result in safer and more robust infrastructure.Facilitating masters’ research, contracted by TxDOT, where we run accelerated mortar bar tests on various concrete mixes containing supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) like nitrates, acetates, fly ash, and other natural pozzolans with the goal of mitigating ASR, which causes failure in all concrete structures over time.
Project Intern / Group Manager
Chosen out of a group of 8 to lead and navigate the team of interns to the completion of several projects at IACC. Designed and built an electronics enclosure to secure electronic and pneumatic devices that the 3D printing clay-extruder robot depends on, to aid ease of use and improve clay flow in the extruding nozzle (preventing air pockets and build-up in the nozzle).Constructed tables strong enough to support the architects’ master projects, utilizing woodworking methods such as milling, sanding, and miter sawing. Also learned how to use Rhinoceros and RhinoCam software to CNC and laser cut parts and accessories for the art exhibit.Took care of the logistics of construction and aided in designing the layout of the art exhibition.Attended Masterclass, a series of short inductions aimed at showing the potential of the technologies present at IAAC, where we learned from masters in their craft, the basics of how to use Fab lab accessories such as the laser cutter, CNC machine, Arduino, 3D printer, drones and rovers, power tools, welding machine, mill, and the 6-axis robot.Aided in the design of the sustainable plant wall; a meticulously designed terraced wall accommodating several plants whose photosynthesis energy is converted to usable power.Researched more sustainable building practices by improving material and structure design as well as incorporating function with beauty.
