When given voluminous files to analyse, Daniel was able to detect the essence of the problem in record time. Once a policy line had been fixed in a given case, he pursued it with great vigour and tenacity. Moreover, despite the fact that he was not a lawyer, Daniel's drafting skills were equal if not superior to those of his colleagues. From the point of view his conduct in the service, Daniel was very highly appreciated, always ready to help colleagues with their cases and to brief the hierarchy on politically sensitive issues. If there had been an administrative possibility to prolong Daniel's secondment beyond the three years which were the rule at the time, DG Competition would certainly have wanted to do so.
